PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a benzyl chloroformate compound, by which the benzyl chloroformate compound can be produced from a benzyl alcohol compound in a good yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the benzyl chloroformate compound is characterized by reacting a benzyl alcohol compound represented by formula (2) (X is H, an alkyl, an alkoxy, nitro or a halogen atom) with phosgene in the presence of an aromatic amine represented by formula (1) (R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are each independently H or an alkyl).
