<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the visibility when an observer views a display screen from an oblique direction with a liquid crystal display device which enables display in a first display state (for example, a 3D display) of displaying different images to a plurality of visual points and a second display state (for example, a 2D display) of displaying one image in a full-screen region. <P>SOLUTION: The 2D/3D switching type liquid crystal display device has a liquid crystal panel 10 for display for forming the display image according to inputted image data, a patternizing retardation plate 20 as a parallax barrier for obtaining a 3D effect by imparting a specific angle of view to the display image during the 3D display, and a switching liquid crystal panel 30 for switching the 2D display/3D display by switching validity/invalidity of the effect of the parallax barrier means.
