PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording control method for an optical disk recording/playing back device, capable of recording signals in an disk. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a pickup control circuit 5 for controlling an optical pickup 3, a servo state detection circuit 14 for detecting the level of a servo signal obtained from the pickup control circuit 5, and a data memory circuit 15 for storing disk characteristic data based on media codes recorded in a disk D. When recording impossibility caused by the level change of the servo signal is determined, a recording operation is suspended, and resumed after a recording speed is changed to a low-speed side, and a determination level for determining recording impossibility is set based on data stored in the data memory circuit 15.
