PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly feed sheets by absorbing the carrying speed on a carrying passage and the feeding speed. SOLUTION: A sheet delivery device 25 comprises a sorting unit 36 and a feed unit 37. Sheets 16 are carried in a staggered manner along two rows of regular carrying passages 44 in the sorting unit 36. A pair of carrying rollers, a holding unit 52 and a high-speed feed roller 53 are provided in a vicinity of an outlet of the regular carrying passage 44. The holding unit 52 comprises a turning guide plate 75 and a driven roller 76. When the sheets 16 are carried upwardly in the diagonal direction by a pair of third carrying rollers 51, the sheets 16 turn the turning guide plate 75 to the evacuation position. When the sheets 16 are separated from the pair of third carrying rollers, the turning guide plate 75 is returned to the urging position to press the sheets 16 against the high-speed feed roller 53.
