PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a profile measuring instrument capable of rapidly deciding whether the measurement and molding of a profile molded by winding a strip-like rubber material are well performed, and a profile measuring method using it. SOLUTION: The profile measuring instrument is equipped with a displacement sensor 2 for measuring the displacement quantity Zm immediately after the winding of the strip-like rubber material 11, a rotary position sensor 4 for detecting the rotary positionθm of a tire molding drum 13, a traverse position detecting sensor 3 for detecting the traverse position Xm of the displacement sensor 2 and an arithmetic device 5 having a profile calculation means 5a for calculating the measuring position (Xp, Yp) on the tire molding drum 3 from the rotary positionθm and the traverse position Xm and calculating the profile Zp (Xp, Yp) of the wound strip-like rubber material 11 from the measuring position (Xp, Yp) and the measured displacement quantity Zm.
