RAZOR BLADES HAVING A NON-LINEAR CUTTING EDGE AND A METHOD FOR MANUFACTURE THEREOF

The present invention is directed to a razor blade 16 having a non-linear cutting edge 18 and a method for making the razor blade 16. The razor blade 16 comprises a substrate 32 and a coating layer 30 applied to at least one surface thereof. The coating layer 30 is etched to define a plurality of substantially co-planar cutting edge patterns 20 collectively forming a non-linear cutting edge 18 on the razor blade 16. Each cutting edge pattern 20 defines an exterior edge 34 having a sharpness sufficient to cut hair. Preferably, a portion of the substrate 32 is removed so that the exterior edges 34 of the cutting edge patterns are offset from the substrate 32.
