A compressed data editing device which performs noise-free smooth switching (edition). A code string 10 is fed to an MPEG decoding circuit 2 and decoded into audio signals after a fixed delay. The operation is temporarily stopped for a repeated block. When the offset value extracted by means of an offset extracting circuit 3 falls within a prescribed range, a repeat pulse is detected and fed to the circuit 2. A flag is set for the frame from which this pulse is detected. The circuit 2 temporarily stops the decoding for a code block recorded second and corresponding to the pulse and resume decoding after the next block is inputted. In the circuit 2, the code string 10 is fed to, for example, a 512-tap synthesization filter and converted into audio signals. Therefore, 256-sample data near the boundary between adjacent blocks are affected by each other and correct audio signals 14 are outputted.
