A method for determining the process quality during the production and winding of a running thread is disclosed, the method having the following steps: - the continuous recording of the time trend of at least one process parameter and the generation of a measurement signal (9); - the continuous derivation of an indication value from the current measured value; - the continuous recording of significant deviations of the indication value from a predetermined desired-value trend representing fault patterns; - the continuous recording of the repetition frequency and/or recurrence frequency of the fault patterns; - the generation of a quality signal as a function of the repetition frequency and/or recurrence frequency in the fault patterns.
