PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method for more accurately calculating the interpolation pixel value when progressively scanning and converting an interlaced image and in scaling processing. SOLUTION: In the image processing method, a state is first divided by a correlative direction to temporarily judge a most certain correlative direction for each pixel in each divided state. Concretely, a left oblique correlation calculating part 3 calculates a correlative value or the like relating to a left oblique correlative direction, and a right oblique correlation calculating part 4 calculates a correlative value or the like relating to a right oblique correlative direction. At least one or more pixels are held as temporarily judged results. Continuously, a final correlative direction is determined from the certainty of one or more pixels belonging to each state temporarily judged in the past. In such a case, as a certainty judging method, the correlative direction for each pixel is regarded as one sequence, and a sequence including the most certain correlative direction is selected from cumulative correlative values of sequences in the respective states, thereby it is possible to perform highly accurate interpolating processing.
