PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing roll which enhances uniformity of the gap between a photoreceptor drum and itself. SOLUTION: The developing roll A includes a base rubber layer 2 and a surface layer 3 which are formed along the periphery of a metal core 1 and has the shape of a hand drum formed such that the periphery of the surface layer 3 becomes gradually smaller in diameter towards its middle part from both its ends. In one of two spaces into which the developing roll A is vertically divided by an imaginary plane including the rotation shaft of the developing roll A and the rotation shaft of the photoreceptor drum, the developing roll A is pressed by a layer formation blade.
