PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing polymerized toner accompanied by few by-product fine particles, easy to wash, exhibiting excellent productivity, not causing defects in image quality such as white streaks in printing, free of reduction of the amount of charge of the toner and fogging even at high temperature and high humidity, ensuring little odor of a residual monomer or a decomposition product of a polymerization inhibitor in printing, and having high safety. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the toner by suspending or emulsifying a polymerizable monomer composition containing a vinyl monomer and a colorant in an aqueous medium containing a dispersion stabilizer and by carrying out polymerization in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor and a polymerization initiator, an azo compound having a 10-hour half life temperature of 30 to 120°C and having no nitrile group on a substituent is used as the polymerization initiator, and a hydroquinone compound is used as the polymerization inhibitor.
