PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method which can detect holographic data, using a simple structure by finding out a position of stored holographic data from the inside of a holographic medium. SOLUTION: This device is a device to detect holographic data, such that a first portion of a reference beam is diffracted and reproduced due to an interference pattern in a holographic medium. The device further comprises a transmitted-light detector for detecting changes with time, in the optical strength of the transmitted light which transmits the holographic medium free of diffraction, in order to constitute a second portion of the reference beam and to reproduce holographic data, a CCD controller for generating a driving signal with the detected optical strength, and a CCD for detecting the holographic data, corresponding to the driving signal.
