PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize the maintenance of a system by fallback or hot swap by easily expanding and changing a system scale in a storage system for a large scale computer. SOLUTION: A plurality of host adapters (upper interfaces) 1 to be connected with an host CPU, a plurality of disk adapters (interfaces on the side of the storage device) 2 to be connected with an array disk 5, and a cache memory 3 for temporary storage to be shared by these adapters, are installed attachably and detachably on a common bus 4 shared by these adapters and the cache memory. What is required for expanding the scale is only adding a required number of adapters 1, 2 and cache memory 3 of these. The adapters 1, 2, the cache memory, and the common bus, are duplicated for realizing fallback operation in the case of a fault, and the joint part of each adapter, the cache memory and the common bus can be hot-swapped so that maintenance check and part replacement can be carried out without stopping the system.
