PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of assembling work of a lock device and a chair. SOLUTION: This chair is so constituted that the rearward tilt of a backrest is locked by the lock device having a friction plate group which comprises multiple friction plates. The lock device 19 is provided with a lock shaft 24 and a bearing metal fixture 26 receiving the lock shaft 24. The lock shaft 24 has the frication plate group 23, a rotation cam body 28, a sliding cam body 27, a belleville spring washer group 29, and a lock nut 41 fitted therearound. A bearing hole 34 of the bearing metal fixture 26 is upward cut-open hole. This constitution can, after the respective members such as the friction plate group 23 and the like are preattached to the lock shaft 24, insert the lock shaft 24 into the bearing hole 34 so as to efficiently perform the assembling work of the lock device 29.
