In order to realize sufficient output performance (EP) of a fuel cell stack (3) without imposing an excessive limit on its operation, an operation-limiting portion (45) and an upper limit value-setting portion (47) are provided in a controller (43) of a fuel cell system (1). Based on a suction air temperature (T1) detected by a temperature sensor (27) and an atmospheric pressure (P0) detected by a pressure sensor (25), the operation-limiting portion (45) limits the operation of the stack (3) and relaxes the limitation. The limitation is made such that a temperature (T2) of air discharged from an air compressor (7) does not rise beyond its upper limit value (Lt), and the relaxation is made when the lowering in the suction air temperature (T1) is predicted. The upper limit value-setting portion (47) sets an upper limit value (Lp) of a pressure (P2) of the air discharged from the air compressor (7) such that the temperature (T2) of the air discharged from the air compressor (7) does not rise beyond its upper limit value (Lt), the setting made based on the suction air temperature (T1) detected by the temperature sensor (27) and the atmospheric pressure (P0) detected by the pressure sensor (25). |
