TRANSMITTER AND TRANSMISSION METHOD FOR MOVING PICTURE CODED DATA

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmitter for transmitting moving image coded data within the range of a permissible transmission capacity without greatly deteriorating the image quality of a reproduced image.

SOLUTION: A buffer 16 stores the video packets 41 obtained by dividing the moving picture coded data in compliance with the MPEG4. A picture coding type 51, the number of inter-picture coding images 52, and the number of in-picture coded blocks 53 are detected as the attributes of each video packet 41. A priority calculation section 14 calculates the priority 54 of each video packet on the basis of the detected attributes. A transmission discrimination section 15 selects a video packet depending on the priority 54 within the range of a permissible transmission capacity. An RTP transmission section 83 transmits only the video packets 42 selected by the transmission discrimination section 15.
