PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maintenance-free roof greening system and a planter therefor, effective for preventing the staining of the roof surface to keep beautiful appearance, preventing the root rotting of plants and the drying of soil and simplifying the arrangement and the irrigation of the roof greening planters. SOLUTION: The roof greening system comprises a top-opened bottom-closed vessel 6, a water-permeable porous member 7 laid on the bottom of the vessel to keep a space between the member and the upper part of the vessel, a soil layer 15 placed in the upper space, a gap-forming draining hole 12 and a through-hole 11 for passing a water feeding pipe and placed at a side of the bottom-closed vessel keeping a prescribed gap to the bottom of the soil layer, a sheath pipe 11-1 having a watering hole on the side wall of the pipe and inserted into the through-hole 11 for the water feeding pipe, the roof greening planter 2 having a capillary water-sucking mechanism 16 extended from the soil layer 15 and placed in a water-reservoir 10 formed in the bottom-closed vessel 6, a water feeding pipe 3 inserted into the sheath pipe 11-1 of the roof greening planter 2 and a water-feeding apparatus connected to the water feeding pipe through a valve.
