PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To excessively suppress the occurrence of undischarged remainders of discharged charges in the charge discharging directions of charge discharging circuits. SOLUTION: A charge transfer device comprises a vertical charge transfer device which has a plurality of steps of charge transfer electrodes and transfers signal charges, a plurality of charge discharging circuits disposed with respect to one step of charge transfer electrodes and selectively discharge the signal charges transferred by means of the vertical charge transfer device in different charge discharging directions, and an output circuit which outputs the signal charges transferred by means of the vertical charge transfer device to the outside.
