PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device by which the alignment of liquid crystal molecules is surely regulated and image persistence due to change in pretilt angle in use does not occur. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device constituted by sealing a liquid crystal between two substrates having electrodes and alignment layers, incorporating a polymerizable monomer to be previously polymerized by heat or light into the liquid crystal, and regulating the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules by polymerizing the monomer in the prescribed state to the polymer is characterized by that the polymerizable monomer is a monomer mixture prepared by adding a trifunctional or higher multifunctional monomer having an effect of enhancing the hardness of the polymer after crosslinking to a bifunctional liquid crystal monomer.
