PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for cultivation, without loading any factor on environment and plants, and suitable for all and every cultivation forms and a wide variety of plants over a long period, and a method for cultivation. SOLUTION: The substrate for cultivating plants has 2 different parts consisting of different materials, wherein, a main part material consists of a continuously air-bubbled hydrophilic polyurethane foam having≤10 sec water absorbing rate and the material of another part is at least one selected from natural soil, a fibrous material and an SiO<SB>2</SB>-based foamed material. The method for cultivating the plants is provided by sowing seeds or transplanting the plants on the latter part of the substrate for cultivation and performing the cultivation.
