<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery having a high capacity and a long service life designed in accordance with respective purposes. <P>SOLUTION: In this lithium secondary battery provided with a negative electrode 503 formed of a negative electrode active material layer 502 containing alloy particles of silicon and tin with an average diameter 0.05-2 μm, as an active material, and a negative electrode collector 501, the storage capacity of the negative electrode active material layer 502 is set in a range of 1,000-2,200 mAh/g, and the density of the negative electrode active material layer 502 is set in a range of 0.9-1.5 g/cm3.
