PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To charge a battery pack comprising a nickel-hydrogen storage battery in a short time while avoiding damage to cells. SOLUTION: A charging system comprises: the battery pack 2 comprising a nickel-hydrogen storage battery with a built-in microcomputer 2A for detecting the temperature of the cells; a power supply block 11 for charging the battery pack 2; and a charge control unit 10 which controls the charging current from the power supply block 11 according to the temperature of the cells detected by the microcomputer 2A. Thus, the charging current can be controlled with rise in the cell temperature taken into account; therefore, the charging time can be adjusted while damage to the cells is avoided.
