PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce information leaking out to side channels as much as possible, because attacks on the side channels get sophisticated recently, to make it more difficult so that the errors are introduced into a data processing device, to detect the tried attacks as to cope with this technical problem, and to protect the data processing device, such as smart cards or the like against the attacks. SOLUTION: The data processing device comprises a processing means which carries out processing operations, including a modular power method operation of a format of [m<SP>d</SP>mod N] having an exponent d and a modulus N and a radix blinding means which reduces the amount of side channel information leaking out from the data processing device, by changing the radix m before the power method operation is carried out, without affecting the result of the modular power method operation by producing an integer k, multiplying the integer k with the modulus N, and adding the multiplication result to the radix m.
