The invention relates to a method and a device for welding or bonding with the aid of an ultrasonic sonotrode. In said device (10): the amplitude of the ultrasonic sonotrode (12) can be adjusted by means of a first rapid regulator (18) of at least one regulation device (22); the distance of at least one counter-bearing (24) from the ultrasonic sonotrode (12) can be adjusted by means of a second slower regulator (20) of the regulation device(s) (22); the activation/deactivation of the second regulator (20) can be controlled by means of a range for an amplitude default value (ATarg.) of the first regulator (18); and the energy transfer (PAct.) of the ultrasonic system (26), which comprises the ultrasonic sonotrode (12) and at least one ultrasonic transducer (14), into at least two materials (30) that are to be bonded can be continuously measured by an energy measurement device (28). The inventive device is characterised in that an energy default value (PTarg.) acts as a guide variable for the first (18) and second regulator (20), the energy transfer (PAct.) can be adjusted by means of the first (18) and second regulator (20) and the energy default value (PTarg.) can be formed in accordance with the feed speed (vM) of the two or more materials (30).
