PURPOSE: An ACC(Adaptive Cruise Control) method and a device are provided to prevent performance reduction caused by the increase of data computation even through images for long and shot distances in front of a vehicle are detected by one camera. CONSTITUTION: An ACC method using a camera mounted in the front side of a vehicle is composed of steps for outputting an image for the front side of the vehicle by the camera(S210); deciding if a preceding vehicle exists or not(S220); controlling the speed of the vehicle based on the distance between the preceding vehicle and an own vehicle(S230); comparing the angle of the camera with a predetermined upward angle(S240,S260); and controlling the angle of the camera based on the preceding vehicle and the camera angle. In the step for controlling the angle of the camera if the preceding vehicle exists, the upward angle of the camera is regulated to a downward angle and the downward camera angle is held(S250).
