PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent both discoloring of colored clothes due to a chlorine component contained in tap water, and propagation of bacilli. SOLUTION: This residual chlorine removal device has a means supplying water containing metal ions with valence smaller than that of metal ions stable in water, or a metal of zero valence. Chlorine in the tap water is removed by a reducing reaction by the metal ions or the metal of zero valence, and the propagation of bacilli is prevented by the metal ions stable in water.
