PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform white balance adjustment so that color deviation or variation can be prevented from occurring in the final output obtained at the time of actual photographing, even if the photographing lens of each electronic camera has variation or a color image pickup element has sensitivity variation in spectral characteristics. SOLUTION: When a camera 10 is adjusted before shipment, R, G, B values of the final output to be obtained at the time of actual photographing and the fine-adjustment value of white balance for making the values match target values are obtained by using a reference chart or a light source for adjustment. In actual photographing, the white balance of the R, G, B signals to be outputted from a CCD 38 is adjusted on the basis of the white balance correction value corresponding to the light source kind selected by a manual operation and the fine-adjustment value.
