PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously heat a longitudinal center part of a rolled material to prevent the temperature of the surface of the rolled material from excessively rising. SOLUTION: This transverse type induction heating device is used for heating the rolled material 1 by inductors 2 and 3 supplied with power from an A.C. power source 4. Iron core width in the plate width direction of the rolled material 1 of the inductors 2 and 3 is set smaller than the plate width of the rolled material 1, and they are disposed on the plate width center line of the rolled material 1. When it is assumed that current filtration depth, specific resistance of the rolled material 1, magnetic permeability of the rolled material 1, a heating frequency of the power source 4, the circular constant, and the plate thickness of the rolled material 1 areδ(m),ρ(Ω-m),μ(H/m), f(Hz),πand tw(m), respectively, the heating frequency of the power source 4 is set so that the current infiltration depthδof expression (1) satisfies expression (2).
