PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent increase in intake resistance due to a throttle valve and cost increase. SOLUTION: In this supercharger for an internal combustion engine, a displacement type electric supercharger 16 driven by an electric motor 18 is interposed in an intake passage 10, and an inlet is provided in an upstream side of the electric supercharger 16 and an outlet is provided in a downstream side. The supercharger for the internal combustion engine is provided with a bypass passage 11 bypassing the electric supercharger 16 to communicate with the intake passage 10, an opening/closing valve varying the opening of the bypass passage 11, a request output detection means detecting request output of the engine, an request intake air quantity calculating means deriving a request intake air quantity based on the request output, and a control means controlling to the request intake air quantity by driving the opening/closing valve and the electric supercharger.
