PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the volume of a forward/backward moving device for moving a movable beam forward/backward. SOLUTION: This walking beam type material carrying device has a movable beam and a fixed beam, and the movable beam is moved upward/forward/downward/backward to form the rectangular movement, and materials are placed on the movable beam and the fixed beam each other for carrying. A rail 7 for supporting the movable beam is fixed to a lower part of the movable beam at an angle inclined downward in the material carrying direction, and this angle is set at a value so that the movable beam is moved forward in an obliquely downward direction while maintaining the horizontal condition when the movable beam loaded with the material is moved forward and that the movable beam is moved backward in an obliquely upward direction while maintaining the horizontal condition when the movable beam is moved backward after placing the material on the fixed beam.
