PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic observation system which enables the implementation of surgery observing stereoscopic observation images with a higher resolution without the interference of a display device with the stereoscopic endoscope or a stereoscopic camera and the observation of the body surfaces of the patients with the naked eyes near sites undergoing the surgery simply by shifing the line of vision of the operators from the display device and eventually achieve the reduction of fatigue of the operators and the shortening of the surgery time. SOLUTION: The stereoscopic display device 8 is provided with a recessed part 11 for preventing the interference with the stereoscopic endoscope 4 or the stereoscopic camera 7.
