The present invention includes a nutating single cone drill bit which rolls and crushes the bore face without dragging cutters which are not directly engaging the borehole thereby reducing wear and torque on the drill string, and which because of the large thrust bearings can withstand large compressi ve loading of the drill string assembly on the bit.
