PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a positioning system for finding a position of a mobile terminal that operates accurately in an urban environment, requires no cost for launching another satellite because it does not fully depend on a GPS satellite, and uses an improved satellite as a base. SOLUTION: The system is provided with a stationary server that stamps a time stamp to an auxiliary radio signal received from an auxiliary radio source such as a DBS satellite or the like according to a time reference led from a GPS. The mobile terminal also received the same auxiliary radio signal and stamps a time stamp to the signal according to a movement time reference. The mobile terminal acquires the time-stamped auxiliary signal received by the server, and it establishes correlation to find an offset of timing between the received two auxiliary signals. Thus, the acquired offset and the measured value of the GPS signal are combined to find the position of the mobile terminal. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
