PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame detecting device for accurately determining the formed conditions of flames of a pilot burner and a main burner while requiring less burden on increases in cost and installation space. SOLUTION: The flame detecting device comprises a pair of flame detectors 13 whose outputs is changed to increase/decrease depending on the formed conditions of the flames, for individually giving detecting operation to each of the main burner 1 and the pilot burner 2 and a determining means 14 for determining the formed conditions of the flames in accordance with output signals from the flame detectors 13. The switching condition of a signal switching means is controlled so that in the combustion timing for the main burner 1 the output signal from the flame detector 13 for the main burner is switched into the condition of being input to the determining means 14 and in the combustion timing for the pilot burner 2 the output signal from the flame detector 13 for the pilot burner is switched into the condition of being input to the determining means.
