<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing downtime which results from formation of developer images for blades and formation of developer images for density adjustment and also capable of suppressing an increase in an amount of developer used for them. <P>SOLUTION: When a cumulative quantity of image density reaches the maximum value Smax of a reference value and a cumulative quantity of toner replenishment is equal to or higher than the minimum value Tmin of the reference value or when a cumulative quantity of toner replenishment reaches the maximum value Tmax and a cumulative quantity of image density is equal to or higher than the minimum value Smin, band images are formed in order to prevent curling of the blades 230 and 231.
