PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a membrane for separating chemical substances which has high chemical substance adsorption and selectivity, allows a quick separation and detection, and is excellent in resource saving, as it is used repeatedly, a method of manufacturing the membrane, and a method and an apparatus for detecting chemical substances.

SOLUTION: The membrane for separating chemical substances is provided with one or more metal oxide layers formed on the surface of a substrate and a host compound which includes predetermined chemical substances fixed on the surface of the metal oxide layer or within the layer.
