A cover plate for floor areas in buildings comprises a carrier plate consisting of a wood material, and a decorative layer which consists of a decorative pattern printed directly onto the carrier plate and covered by a transparent overlay consisting essentially of heat-hardenable plastics, in particular, melamine resin. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing the proposed floor cover plate.
