STAINLESS STEEL IN WHICH FATIGUE CHARACTERISTICS AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES SUCH AS STRENGTH ARE COMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER AT HIGH LEVEL

PURPOSE: To provide a work hardening type metastable austenitic stainless steel which is used in a field requiring mechanical properties and fatigue characteristics, and in which mechanical properties and fatigue characteristics are compatible with each other at a high level. CONSTITUTION: The metastable austenitic stainless steel is characterized in that an average value of martensite amount for a first portion that is in a smaller range out of a portion that is 10 μm from a surface layer in a strip thickness direction or a portion that is 20% of strip thickness from the surface layer is less than 65%, an average value of martensite amount for a second portion obtained by excluding the first portion from the whole material is 70% or more, and an average value of martensite amount of the whole material is 60 to 75%.
