PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant discrimination device 8 capable of protecting a sensing plate 15 from snapping or breaking with an advantage in the cost, with a simple constitution by only setting a stopper at an optimum position without degrading a detection precision even under uneven load. SOLUTION: This device is provided with the protection stopper 13 at the optimum position allowing the bending deformation of the sensing plate 15 at maximum within the limit of stress. The sensing plate 15 is allowed with a large deformation within the limit of bending stress when being loaded by setting the stopper 13 at the optimum position (2L/3 to L/3 from a movable end). The sensing plate 15 is allowed with a large deformation, but the large deformation excessing the limit of stress is blocked by the protection stopper 13, resulting in preventing the sensing plate 15 from damaging to an yielding point.
