PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method and an image processing apparatus capable of properly carrying out the white board contrast emphasis processing. SOLUTION: An image is divided into a plurality of blocks each comprising a plurality of pixels, a group of blocks comprising a prescribed number of blocks respectively longitudinally and laterally wherein each of all the blocks includes a target block, is set, and each target block is decided to be located at a corner remotest from a center O of the image in each block of the block group. Then a prescribed number of blocks with low luminance is extracted from the block group, an average Yab of a block background level of the blocks is calculated and the average Yab is set to the block background level of the target block.
