PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting device which is sufficiently usable for moving picture and still picture photography in respective modes by using a light source of video light even as a light source for flash light. SOLUTION: Main capacitors C1 and C2 can be charged by turning on charging switches Sc1 and Sc2 at the same time or by turns. In this embodiment, a control part 13 performs on/off control over charging switches Sc1 and Sc2 according to which of a flash mode, a video mode, and a combination mode a user selects. Further, the control part 13 performs control so that discharging is not carried out while discharging switches Sd1 and Sd2 are both on at the same time.
