PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition for wood comprising an aqueous emulsion excellent in activation energy ray-setting feature especially in UV-setting feature, with its hardened film free of discoloration or odor, and excellent in hardness, in solvent resistance, and in water resistance. SOLUTION: The activation energy ray-setting coating composition for wood comprises (A) a polymer having a compound having an ethylenic unsaturated group and a cyclic imide group of formula (1) as a constitutional monomeric unit, and (B) an emulsion wherein a compound having≥2 (meth)acryloyl groups is dispersed into an aqueous medium. In formula (1), R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are≤4C alkyl groups independent from each other; or one of the two is a hydrogen atom and the other is a≤4C alkyl group; or the two jointly constitute a carbon ring.
