The invention relates to an improved method for carrying out cyclising ene reactions of unsaturated aldehydes to form cyclic enols, whereby the cyclisation is carried out in the presence of small quantities of solvent of up to 10 wt. %, in relation to the quantity of aldehyde used, and in the presence of at least one mixed oxide catalyst consisting of SiO2 and Al2O3.
