A control section (101) specifies the method for unifying images of respective viewpoints. An image unification section (102) arranges images of the respective viewpoints at appropriate positions and creates a unified image. A 3D image control information creation section (103) formats the method for arranging the images of respective viewpoints and various characteristics of the 3-dimensional image, thereby creating 3D image control information. A coding section (104) codes the unified image data. A multiplexing section (105) multiplies the coded data with the 3D image control information and outputs them. A file name decision section (106) decides a file name when recording the multiplexed data as a file. A storage directory decision section (107) decides the directory for storing the file to be recorded. A file creation section (108) records the file with the storage directory and the file name which have been decided. Thus, it is possible to distinguish image data for 3-dimensional display from image data for 2-dimensional display.
