VENTED CONTAINER CLOSURE

A closure is provided with a ribbed skirt (3) fitting over the neck of the bottle. The cap (4) moves between a closed position where the dispensing aperture (6) is sealed by a sealing disc (9) and an open position where the cap is raised to let fluid flow.A breather hole (11) in the cap mechanism which is opened and closed by movement of an internally projecting sealing lip (10) to either side of the breathing hole (11). When the cap (4) is raised, the breather hole (11) is opened permitting air to flow through the vent duct (12) and release vacuum within the container. The vent duct (12) may be provided with a one way valve mechanism in the form of a vent cap (13). The invention enables liquid to be sucked through an integral straw (2) by the user from a rigid container or for a drink container to be used in the inverted position for dispensing drink into the mouth of the user without causing surges or bottle deformation due to the creation of vacuum in the container as the liquid is drained from the container.
