It is intended to provide a drug for nerve degeneration, a nerve stem cell neurogenesis promoter, a neuron obtained by culturing a nerve stem cell in t he presence of the neurogenesis promoter, and a method of producing the neuron. To achieve the above objects, a drug for nerve degeneration which contains a s the active ingredient a substance inhibiting the activity of a glycogen synthase kinase-3, a nerve stem cell neurogenesis promoter containing this substance as the active ingredient, a neuron obtained by culturing a nerve stem cell in the presence of the neurogenesis promoter, and a method of producing the neuron are provided. The above-described drugs are useful as remedies for nerve diseases such as Parkinson~s disease, Alzheimer~s disease , Down~s disease, cerebrovascular disorder, cerebral stroke, spinal injury, Huntington~s chorea, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, epilepsy, anxiety disorder, integration dysfunction syndrome, depression and manic-depressive.
