PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique of setting the display region of an image on a projection surface without displaying the image on the projection surface. SOLUTION: A projector includes a display image data generator for generating display image data showing the image to be displayed on the projection surface, an image light forming device for emitting light to form the image according to the display image data, and a projection optical system for projecting the light emitted from the image light forming device onto the projection surface. The projector further includes a photographing unit for photographing the projection surface, a display unit for displaying a photographic image recorded by the photographing unit, and a display condition determination unit for determining display conditions of the projector by setting the display region of the image on the projection surface by the use of information in the photographic image displayed on the display unit.
