PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molecular dispersion type organic EL element and organic EL display capable of achieving all at a high level heat resistance, a long life and luminous efficiency. SOLUTION: Of the organic EL element provided with a base plate, an electrode layer, an organic layer, and an electrode layer, the organic layer is to contain a vinyl polymer obtained by polymerizing polymeric monomers containing compounds expressed in formula (1) or (2). Here in the formulae, L denotes a bivalent group, X<SP>1</SP>, X<SP>2</SP>, X<SP>3</SP>, X<SP>4</SP>, X<SP>5</SP>, X<SP>6</SP>, X<SP>7</SP>, X<SP>8</SP>, X<SP>9</SP>, and X<SP>10</SP>may be the same or different and denote, respectively, a carbon atom or a nitrogen atom, a denotes an integer of 0 or 1, one out of X<SP>1</SP>to X<SP>10</SP>is a carbon atom with which a group expressed by L or a vinyl group is bonded, carbon atoms other than those bonded with a group expressed by L or a vinyl group out of X<SP>1</SP>TO X<SP>10</SP>may have substituents bonded, and the substituents themselves may bond with each other to form a ring.
