PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a braking device for sliding door which is compact and made thin, and which can be simply adjusted in damping force at a low cost. SOLUTION: The braking device for sliding door constituted so that a fluid chamber 12 of a braking device body 7 filled with viscous fluid, at the same time, a rotator 16 is stored therein and in which rotational operation is only transferred in the predetermined direction through a clutch 22, is characterised by being constituted so that a guide plate 17 is rotatably installed opposedly to the rotator 16 at a predetermined interval, a notch section of the guide plate 17 and a slit section of an adjusting plate 18 are engaged with each other to place one end section side of the slit section on the rotator 16 side of the guide plate 17 so as to make the adjusting plate 18 disposed opposedly to the rotator 16 through the viscous fluid, at the same time, the other end section side of the slit section is placed to the opposite surface side of the guide plate 17 and the area of the adjusting plate 18 located on the surface side opposed to the rotator 16 of the guide plate 17 is increased and decreased by rotating the guide plate 17 with an adjusting shaft 19 to adjust viscous resistance of the viscous fluid.
