PURPOSE: A method is provided to achieve improved color purity by forming a focus electrode on a top electrode through an electro-plating process and applying negative or ground voltages to the top and focus electrodes, so as to prevent scattering of electrons emitted from the device. CONSTITUTION: A method comprises a step of forming a lower electrode(22), insulating films including a tunnel insulating film(24), and an upper electrode bus(26); a step of forming an upper insulating film(27) all over the structure obtained from the previous step, and forming an aperture by etching the structure in such a manner that the tunnel insulating film is exposed; a step of forming a top electrode(28) all over the structure; and a step of forming a focus electrode(29) on the top electrode formed on the upper insulating film. The focus electrode is a metal other than Au.
